Cahors is the nearest big city. It is about 20 minutes drive from the house.
This capital of the Lot department is located on the river 'the Lot'.
The habitation of this place dates back to the first century. The Romans then settled in Cahors and left it around the year 500. The old town (called: quartier Badernes) of Cahors has been preserved for the most part. Of course there are also many other attractions in and around the center of Cahors.
Lauzerte is a fairly large village located 10 kilometers from the house. This village is definitely worth it because it is on the list of most beautiful villages in France. Lauzerte is located on a hill between two rivers (Barguelonnette and Lenduo) so that you can enjoy a beautiful panorama in various places in the village.
The region is known for its orchards, sunflowers, corn and lavender but of course you can center also spotting various monuments.
On Saturday morning there is a local market with all kinds of fresh products.
Montauban is a fairly large city within a 40-kilometer drive from the house. This city of art and history is known as a place of good life.
In the historical heart you can find the Place Nationale where every morning a market takes place. The square is surrounded by beautiful, double arches that serve as elegant facades. Around the square you can walk in the cozy, car-free shopping streets. There are also numerous monuments that reflect the antiquity of the city. We find the Saint-Jacques church, the Old Bridge, the Lefranc de Popignan mansion and a whole bunch of other places that are worth visiting.
This city, 25 minutes from the house, is known by a sketch from 'Le petit Rapporteur' (1970). Furthermore, this city is also the former capital of medieval rule and is located on one of the roads to Compostella. The village is built on a conical hill that is occupied on the south side with houses. There are still many beautiful relics of the golden age to be found throughout the city: the old castle (the donjon), the belfry, the Saint -Hilary church ... Well worth it!
